Standing Firm

Psalm 1:1-3

“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither-whatever they do prospers.”

Immediately when I read those verses they resonated with me. This election cycle has brought out in stark contrast for me the difference between loving the Lord and loving the world; between being in the world but not OF the world; between having faith that my heavenly King rules this world rather than placing all my faith on the rule of an earthly king.

Psalm 2:1-4

“Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.” The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.”

This verse has such a calming effect for me. It is an instant reminder that this world, those that rule here, and even our own existence are but fleeting in the face of an everlasting God. He created this earth and everything in it with loving intention. He continues to care and govern and shield His people according to His promises. I am thankful for these verses today. They lighten the load of standing firm for my beliefs in the face of a world that rejects them at every opportunity. They remind me that God is in control and that He alone is my strength.
